The Primary Years Program (PYP) is for students aged 3-12. The PYP aims to provide a holistic education that nurtures the whole child – intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically – and prepares them for a rapidly changing world.
At the heart of the PYP is a student-centered approach, in which students are encouraged have voice, choice, and ownership over their learning. They are encouraged to ask questions, investigate, and take action in order to connect what they learn in the classroom to the world around them. Through transdisciplinary learning, students explore a range of subjects, including language, math, science, social studies, the arts, and personal and social education, and develop multiple skills that prepares them for the 21st century.
Assessment is a continuous process focused on evaluating learning rather than simply measuring task completion. It encompasses assessment of learning, for learning, and as learning. This approach allows students to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge in diverse and meaningful ways, including through projects, thinking routines, journals, exams, and other reflective and creative outputs. This method not only measures progress but actively fosters student engagement and deeper learning.
